On Thursday afternoon, The CW announced that “90210” has been canceled and will air its series finale this May after five seasons on the air.
Before the ink was even dry on that press release, though, ABC Family wasted no time in promptly snatching up series star Trevor Donovan for a significant guest role on their hit comedy “Melissa and Joey.”
Zap2it has learned exclusively that Donovan will star as Austin, a childhood friend of Mel (Melissa Joan Hart) who moves back to town.
As her former next-door-neighbor, the two share a warm, bantering relationship that’s easily reignited when he comes back into her life. She’s interested in taking things to the next level when Joe (Joe Lawrence) discovers a potential complication. Expect to see Donovan in three episodes.
Donovan is best known for his role as Teddy Montgomery on “90210.” Following the news of the show’s cancellation, he tweeted, “Very grateful I had the opportunity to play a meaningful character, who just happened to be gay.. ..xo #ThanksForTheMemories” from his official twitter.
In addition to continuing to appear on “90210” through the spring, Donovan can be seen on an upcoming episode of “The Client List” as one of Jennifer Love Hewitt’s patrons… with a rather interesting fetish.
“Melissa & Joey” returns this spring with all-new episodes on ABC Family.
