On Thursday (Feb. 14), police observed a swerving vehicle driven by Cheryl, who appeared on “Idol” several times while her son was competing last season, and pulled her over, according to a report from the Albany Herald. Officers then administered a sobriety test that the woman was not able to pass.
“The driver was all over the road, so my officer pulled her over,” Major Bill Berry of the Albany-Doherty Drug Unit told the Albany Herald. “She was taken to the hospital for a blood test and has been charged with DUI-Less Safe.”
This particular charge apparently indicates that police do not suspect alcohol but instead find evidence of impairment by another substance. Although the hospital blood test results may not be available for some time, police transferred Phillips to the Dougherty County jail for processing.
There is no information yet on which drugs are suspected in the DUI. No one from the Phillips family has made a statement about the incident either, although rumors indicate that the elder Phillipses may have separated recently.
