Why does Vincent fall so quickly for someone from his past?
Bridget Regan: That’s part of the appeal. There’s this huge draw from Vincent to Alex, because she doesn’t know this whole dark reality of his life. She comes from the light and easy side of his past. I could understand why he would want to be with her — not just because they have such a good past, but also she’s oblivious.
What’s coming next for Vincent and Alex?
Bridget Regan: In this upcoming episode, Alex wants to take Vince away for the weekend to her family’s cabin in the woods. She asks Catherine permission, because she believes what Vincent told her, that Catherine is his handler. So she asks permission from her, and obviously that’s not a comfortable situation for poor Catherine.
I think Alex is also starting to pick up on — maybe there’s something more between [Catherine and Vincent]? Maybe more than just a personal relationship?
Alex just wants to have a romantic weekend with the man she loves and that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.
I think in this episode a lot of stuff is revealed that Alex is not prepared for. You know, she doesn’t have any idea at all what’s going on with the situation. So she’s really challenged in that way.
It wasn’t an easy episode, I will say. But it was important. Alex is just acting on what she knows, and so far she’s being confused.
How does she see the character of Alex, a woman who steals drugs and rushes back to her ex-fiance after so many years?
Bridget Regan: She’s Robin Hood. Steal from the rich, give to the poor… I think she had to keep her hands really busy. She had to find another love, and she hasn’t moved on. It’s been 10 years… So she has to be constantly working, at the hospital and at the care unit.
She is ready to drop everything the second he comes back into her life.
Everybody has a past and pretty much everybody has an ex. And I think it helps everyone see this old Vincent. I asked Jay, “Has anyone ever called you anything other than Vincent?” To me, it was so formal. And I was like, “I’ll call you Vince!” I wanted something special that was just us. It was like this lighter side to his character that he doesn’t often get to play, because the gravity of his situation is so heavy.
Along those lines, how was it, coming into the middle of a beloved romance on “Beauty and the Beast”?
Bridget Regan: I know that people in the fandom weren’t very happy about Alex. But you now, what are you going to do? Everybody’s got a past!
I completely understand where the fans are coming from. I mean, I’m coming here in the 10th episode, and so much tension has developed between Catherine and Vincent, and they have so much invested in that relationship. I understand why people wouldn’t be rooting for Alex — I completely do. That being said, if you look at it from her perspective, she’s together with her fiance! If you look at it from her side, she didn’t have it so easy either.
She’s also oblivious up to this point, that there’s anything going on. She’s innocent, really!
But if she did find out about the other romantic relationship, would she fight to keep Vincent?
Bridget Regan: I think she would fight. I do. But the show is more complicated than just a romantic situation. There’s a lot going on between these people. First of all, Catherine’s already saved my life, not to mention how many times Vincent and Catherine have been there for each other. These people owe each other a lot.
It’s not your regular triangle. Alex is a different person from Catherine. And who they are really gets revealed in this next episode. It was not easy to shoot — I won’t lie, it was tough.
“Beauty and the Beast” airs Thursdays at 9pm on The CW.
