Justin Timberlake calls Britney Spears the b-word, then insists he didn’t mean it that way, while again calling her the b-word … That pretty much sums up the drama surrounding JT’s live comeback performance on Super Bowl eve.
Lucky attendees of DirecTV’s Super Saturday Night concert took over Twitter feeds everywhere, giving the blow-by-blow of Justin’s live performance in real time. Along with a surprise appearance from Jay-Z, Timberlake debuted two new songs, and threw in some cover tunes. But when he took the mic to refer to Britney in unflattering terms, her own Twitter “army” went on the attack.
Timberlake reportedly introduced his Grammy-winning song, “Cry Me A River” — which he famously wrote amidst his breakup with Britney over cheating allegations — by saying, “Sometimes in life, you think you found the one. But then one day you find out that she is just some b****.”
Britney’s fans immediately went on the attack, prompting an attempt by Justin to clarify the situation. “Ok. I see you,” he tweeted. “Wouldn’t disrespect anyone personally. Ever.” He then typed Spears’ own song lyric, “It’s Britney, b****,” and added, “I do love that saying though … Respect.”
Britney herself seemed to ignore the drama, instead opting to tweet an imaginary conversation with her dog, that leads fans to believe a highly-anticipated Las Vegas residency announcement is forthcoming. Respect, indeed.
