If you’re a fan of genre TV, you’re probably already familiar with Alona Tal from her memorable work on fan faves like “Supernatural” and “Veronica Mars.” Her characters suffered untimely deaths on both those shows, so the Israeli actress is hoping that her new series, The CW’s “Cult,” keeps her around a little longer.
“All jokes aside, I did ask when I signed on if I was going to die in the first season,” she tells Zap2it. “I’m very good at dying, apparently. I have a particular track record. I was just making sure!”
On “Cult,” Tal essentially plays two characters. In the first episode, we’ll see her as Kelly, a TV detective who is tracking the leader of a cult that destroyed her family. Later, though, we’ll see Tal as Marti, the actress who plays Kelly, who gets involved in some real-life danger as her show’s fandom, cast, and crew begin to take the premise too far.
It’s more complicated to write about “Cult” than it is to watch it, but it’s definitely a tangled web. “There’s nothing like it on TV,” Tal says. “You have all these levels and colors to the show. It’s more challenging to keep track of it, in a different way. There are shows that are challenging — ‘Homeland,’ and all these shows on other networks — that are challenging for different reasons. Our show is very unique in its pulse and what it has to offer.”
Even with a very talented cast around her, Tal manages to be a standout of the first episode, which is why we chose her as one of Zap2it’s Ones to Watch.
Get to know her with our Q&A below, and make sure to tune in to
“Cult,” Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. EST on The CW, beginning February 19.

I met Rachel McAdams shortly after the release of “The Notebook.” In honor of her movie “Mean Girls” I would say I proceeded to have “word vomit” and couldn’t stop talking. I don’t even know what I said.
