Sure, it’s terrific landing a TV show, and with your best friend, no less. And it’s wonderful making it in the notoriously tough field of comedy
But the best perk, say Nikki Glaser and Sara Schaefer of “Nikki & Sara LIVE!” airing Tuesdays on MTV, is having stylists.
“We get styled, which is the most amazing thing about my job right now,” Glaser says Zap2it of their fashion gurus, Alana Kelen and Dani Charlton. “Out of everything I am doing — I have a comedy show; I get to do comedy with my best friend. I cannot say enough about having someone else pick out clothes that look good on you.
“I have never worked with another stylist,” Glaser says. “I know what I like, but I walk in a store and get overwhelmed by choices.”
The two women say being on TV has made them reassess their styles.
“I am not going to take full credit,” Schaefer says. “We have an amazing wardrobe stylist department. What they do is go out and shop. It is sort of the best thing ever! They bring you all this stuff, and then you try it on and say, ‘I don’t like this. It isn’t me.’ “
“It’s a mixture of fun and flirty,” Glaser says of the red pleated skirt and black and white print top. “The black boots add an edge to it. People look at me and think blonde and sweet and innocent. And all of my comedy comes from a nice place, but I do have a very, very dark side to me.”
“I like to mix it up,” Glaser says. “The stylist taught me to mix it up with color and now I am taking more chances. I have been so intimidated by fashion for so many years and have taken the easy route because it seemed like too much effort, and am just now coming to terms with that. I am trying to embrace that more. People see who you are before you talk.”
Schaefer says her personal look off camera is “that cute middle ground — a skirt with a flannel shirt. I like casual with dressy, one crazy piece and the rest is very simple. That is kind of how I like to do things in my normal life. I am all about leggings, and I wear my boyfriend’s flannel shirt.”
“I love showing off my legs; they’re my favorite part of [my] body,” Schaefer says. “The skirt is heavy and bejeweled. The rest is very simple. I would not have put purple stockings with that. This has really changed me. It has definitely made me be more adventurous.”
At first glance, the jeans look typical, but look closely — leather lines the inside lower leg.
“I have been stealing these and wearing [them] out,” Schaefer says. “The leather thing on the inside, it’s almost to protect me if I were on the motorcycle.”
