les miserables cast oscars Oscars 2013: 'Les Miserables' cast and Jennifer Hudson help pull off a Broadway tributeTaking a Broadway show and turning it into a film is difficult
enough. Turning it into a worldwide TV event seems impossible, yet the
Academy Awards pulled it off Sunday (Feb. 24).
Catherine Zeta-Jones proved she still has it in her number from the Best Picture-wininng “Chicago,” singing and doing effortless lifts, moving like the dancer she has always been.
Of the three plays turned into movies that were recognized, “Chicago” is the only one still on Broadway.
Jennifer Hudson
belted for “Dreamgirls,” making you ache for her in every note, and
probably would have brought down the house if it had not been for the
more crowded production used for the finale.
Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Amanda Seyfried and the rest of the cast of “Les Miserables” brought the audience to its feet.
True,
they may have needed a break in a show that threatens to go very late,
but this is a crowd that knows when a number works — witness the
reactions to some of the alleged comedy numbers.
