The CW has found one of the leads for its pilot “Blink.”
Madeline Carroll (“Mr. Popper’s Penguins”) will play Ari, the teenage daughter of a man who’s left in a “coma-like” state after an accident, Deadline reports. The father can’t speak or move, but he can still see and hear and will narrate the show from his vantage point in the hospital. Carroll’s character is devastated by her dad’s accident and spends a lot of time with him at the hospital.
The soon-to-be 17-year-old Carroll has a host of TV guest-star credits to her name, including spots on “NCIS,” “Private Practice,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Cold Case.”
Other pilot castings:
– Minnie Driver will star opposite David Walton in NBC’s “About a Boy,” which “Parenthood’s” Jason Katims is adapting. Driver will play a single mom who along with her son moves in next to Walton’s stuck-in-adolescence bachelor. Katims reportedly wrote the role with Driver in mind; it will be her first series role in the U.S. since “The Riches,” although she has done pilots the past couple years.
– CCH Pounder (“The Shield,” “Warehouse 13”) has joined CBS’ drama “The Advocates,” about a female lawyer and an ex-con who work as victim advocates in the legal system. Pounder will play their boss, the head of the victim advocates’ office. [Deadline]
– Jake Lacy will move from “The Office” to “The McCarthys,” a CBS comedy about a boisterous Boston family. He joins Jack McGee and Jacki Weaver in the cast and will play their son, who came out to the family a couple years back and is trying to move into his own place. [TVLine]
– Jake McLaughlin (Starz’s “Crash”) will star in NBC’s drama “Believe” from J.J. Abrams and writers Mark Friedman (“The Forgotten”) and Alfonso Cuaron (“Children of Men”), who’s also directing the pilot. The story centers on a young girl who possesses powers that will bloom in seven years’ time and the man (McLaughlin) who’s freed from prison to protect her from people who want to do her harm.
