John Green’s “The Fault in Our Stars” was Time Magazine’s book of the year in 2012, and it’s shaping up to potentially be a great movie as well. The film, which is written by “(500) Days of Summer” scribes Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, is set to go into production this summer — and now it may have found its star.
Shailene Woodley‘s rep confirms to Hypable that the Golden Globe-nominated actress is in talks to play Hazel Grace Lancaster, the female lead. Hazel is a 16-year-old girl battling terminal cancer, who meets Augustus Waters (swoon!) at a kids-with-cancer support group.
Even Green himself teased via Twitter, “Big news is forthcoming in re The Fault in Our Stars movie. THIS HAS BEEN A VERY EXCITING COUPLE OF DAYS.”
Woodley is currently shooting “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” as Mary Jane Watson opposite Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker. A final decision won’t be made about “The Fault In Our Stars” until the film has confirmed a director. “It’s tricky; you always want to do it with a director. We won’t pick
an actor without the director,” says producer Wyck Godfrey. “The director really should
be at the center of that, but the great news is we have our choice of
the best actresses and actors of their generation.”
