If you’ve been watching and enjoying FX’s “The Americans” you can feel secure about the show’s future: the network has officially renewed the Cold War spy drama for Season 2.
Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys star as two KGB spies posing as Americans in 1980s suburban Washington D.C. The series premiere set a record for FX drawing 5.11 million viewers in Live+7 ratings. Although subsequent episodes have failed to match that figure, ratings for this week’s fourth episode were up versus the previous week and FX plans a marathon of the first five episodes on March 1 to give audiences a chance to catch up.
“The show is truly worthy of its widespread critical acclaim and we are confident that its quality will continue to yield a robust and passionate audience,” FX president and general manager John Landgraf noted in the network’s renewal statement.
The Season 2 renewal is for 13 episodes, customary for FX. The Season 1 finale of “The Americans” airs May 1.
