A show that features celebrities trying to perform Olympic dives is bound to be fraught with injuries, right? We just didn’t expect the injuries to be from breaking a table.
First Louie Anderson needed to be saved on the “Splash” set, now it sounds as though Chuy Bravo (Chelsea Handler’s on-air sidekick) is out of the diving competition show because of an injury to his left foot.
TMZ is reporting that Chuy, who did not even know how to swim when he signed on for the show, was getting good enough to compete, but on the first day of filming, he jumped on a table and the table broke. When Chuy fell, he fractured his heel bone and had to withdraw from the competition because X-rays revealed that the fracture was severe enough that he should not put any weight on it, so no diving off the diving boards.
TMZ is also told that U.S. soccer star Brandi Chastain — the woman who famously kicked the winning shoot-out goal to win the 1999 World Cup and then stripped off her jersey — is the replacement for Chuy.
A rep for ABC tells Zap2it, “Chuy fractured his heel and will not be able to dive, however, he will
continue to be a part of this season. Brandi Chastain will take his
place in the competition.”
“Splash” premieres Tuesday, March 19.
