The wine will continue to flow in Gulfhaven: TBS has picked up “Cougar Town” for a fifth season.
The renewal for 13 episodes comes a couple weeks before the show’s current season, its first on cable, concludes. Season 5 is expected on the air in 2014.
“‘Cougar Town’ has been everything we hoped it would be: a smart, big-hearted, laugh-out-loud comedy that shines a bright light on the TBS brand,” TBS president Michael Wright says in a statement. “This season, the brilliant cast and immensely creative production team on ‘Cougar Town’ have crafted their best episodes yet, and we couldn’t be happier inviting them back for more.”
“Cougar Town” hasn’t been a big hit for TBS, with episodes averaging in the neighborhood of 2 million viewers. A relatively high proportion of those viewers, though, falls into the 18-49 demographic. TBS also acquired the show’s rerun rights in the deal to bring the show over from ABC and has used it to help fill out its daytime schedule.
The 13 episodes for Season 5 will bring “Cougar Town” to a total of 89, which is not the syndication gold standard of 100 but isn’t far away either.
