NBC’s high-society murder drama “Deception” is not likely to be renewed for a second season, but luckily, the writers revealed who the killer was, instead of leaving a cliffhanger that might not ever be resolved.
Meredith Vieira guest starred on the season finale as herself, interviewing the Bowers in the wake of the “revelation” that Audrey Cruz, a former employee of the Bowers family, had Vivian killed.
But Detective Locasto knows it wasn’t Cruz and doggedly continues on with the investigation. It turns out Vivian’s time of death was off — she wasn’t killed at the hotel where she was found, she was killed in the Bowers’ family wine cellar and moved to the hotel.
By her own father. Robert killed Vivian and stuffed her in a suitcase, to move her to the hotel. It’s also implied that perhaps Robert had something to do with the death of his first wife, Catherine.
The creators always said the first season would reveal the killer and Season 2 would be about proving it, hence the sort-of cliffhanger of Joanna, Will and Senator Haverstock planning to work together to prove it was Robert after a key piece of evidence against him goes missing
