For two months this summer, Comedy Central is going to be airing “The Daily Show with John Oliver,” not “Jon Stewart.” Stewart will be taking a hiatus in order to film his directorial debut, and John Oliver is the man who will fill in his place.
Deadline reports that Stewart will be taking a 12 week break to focus on filming his new movie “Rosewater,” and that Oliver will serve as “guest host” for eight of those weeks. Oliver is a regular on the comedy news program, so it will be interesting to see him take a leading role.
“Rosewater” is an adaptation of BBC journalist Maziar Bahari’s book “Then They Came For Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity and Survival.” It tells the story of Bahari’s captivity in Iran in 2009 when he was tortured by a man he only recognized by the fact he smelled of rosewater. Stewart wrote the script and will direct. It’s unclear if he’ll take a role in the movie as well.
