The show will be set in the 1800s, like the movie, but in a new addition, will not only chronicle gangs in New York City, but also in Chicago and New Orleans, among other cities.
“This time and era of America’s history and heritage is rich with characters and stories that we could not fully explore in a two-hour film,” says Scorsese. “A television series allows us the time and creative freedom to bring this colorful world, and all the implications it had and still does on our society, to life.”
This would be Scorsese’s second foray into television. He is the executive producer for HBO drama “Boardwalk Empire,” which showcases prohibition-era New Jersey.
There is no word yet as to which network will air the “Gangs” drama.
