Netflix is expanding its slate of original programming once more. The online content provider has announced that they will produce 10 episodes of Andy and Lana Wachowski‘s new sci-fi drama project “Sense8.”
The show, a collaboration with “Babylon 5” creator J. Michael Straczynski, is described as “a global story of minds linked and souls hunted” that incorporates the Wachowski’s inventive storytelling style.
“Andy and Lana Wachowski and Joe Straczynski are among the most imaginative writers and gifted visual storytellers of our time,” Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos says.
The Wachowskis add, “We’re excited to work with Netflix and Georgeville Television on this project, and we’ve wanted to work with Joe Straczynski for years, chiefly due to the fact his name is harder to pronounce than ours, but also because we share a love of genre and all things nerdy.”
The siblings also offered up some vague details on the impetus of the series. “Several years ago, we had a late-night conversation about the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us, and out of that paradox ‘Sense8’ was born.”
Fans can prepare to scratch their heads in late 2014, when the series is set to debut on Netflix Instant.
