Magneto marrying Professor X? Sounds like a sub-genre of “X Men” fan fiction.
“I’m going to marry Patrick,” says McKellen, cheekily. Then adds, “I am going to officiate at his wedding.”
Ross wonders how McKellen is legally allowed to do so and McKellen cracks, “I don’t know.”
“In Massachusetts, or the middle of America somewhere, you get anybody along, a friend, and I read out the words and Sunny and Patrick will then be married,” says McKellen.
He speaks, of course, of Stewart and his fiancee, jazz singer Sunny Ozell. The two have been together since 2009. And the part about Massachusetts — in the great state of Massachusetts, a family friend or relative can perform a wedding ceremony for a one-time fee.
McKellen adds that this is not his first time performing a wedding ceremony.
“I’ve done it once before with two guys … I was crying my eyes out,” says McKellen. “What do you wear? Last time I went with a sort of gown, a white something I bought in India, it was rather fetching. But you mustn’t upstage the bride.”
We would imagine it would be hard for Sir Ian not to upstage the bride. You can see both McKellen and Stewart reprising their “X Men” roles in the upcoming “Days of Futures Past” movie, due out summer 2014.
