Sunday, director Peter Jackson held a live Q&A online for those who picked up “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” on DVD and Blu-ray. He answered questions from fans, while teasing details from the next two films in the trilogy. JoBlo reports he was joined by stars of “The Hobbit,” as well as some from the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
In addition to answering questions, Jackson showed footage from the set of the next installment, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.” Some of the footage featured Orlando Bloom’s Legolas from “Lord of the Rings,” as well as a new character named Tauriel. The character, an elf guard, is played by “LOST” star Evangeline Lilly.
Lilly’s character is notable because she was not created by author J.R.R. Tolkein, but is a new addition to the story. “We’re quite excited about the storyline we have created for Tauriel,” Jackson says while showing footage of the character fighting orcs, “As you can see, she’s not an Elf Guard to be messed with.” He also showed a scene between Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and Radagast (Sylvester McCoy), as they investigate an abandoned crypt named Dol Goldur.
Toward the end of the session, Jackson promised a trailer for the next movie this summer, and said they would be continuing their behind-the-scenes video blogs, documenting the production of the movies. Though filming for the series wrapped last July, it was also noted that there will be reshoots this summer.
