Well, this is definitely one way to get baseball season off to an interesting start. During a pre-season game between the New York Yankees and the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday, two ESPN commentators were discussing the poor state the Yanks seem to be in.
The team that was once the high point of Major League Baseball, love them or hate them, is showing many cracks in their armor. However, there is one comparison about the team no one saw coming. Doug Glanville, a former player turned analyst for ESPN, likened the team to 2005’s Oscar-winning “Brokeback Mountain,” a movie that tells the story of a sexual relationship between two cowboys.
That’s likely not exactly what Glanville was aiming for when he made the comparison. His full quote reads, “They have basically ‘Brokeback Mountain’ going over here. I mean, everybody’s on the disabled list, or hurt in some form or fashion.” It was an honest mistake on Glanville’s part, as it sounds like he was just trying to make a bit of a pun about the many injuries on the team leaving them broken. For the record, battered or not, the Yankees beat the Cardinals, 4-0
