Porsha Stewart only joined “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” this season, but her life has been full of drama ever since. She recently discovered her former NFL star husband, Kordell Stewart, filed for divorce with no warning after being married for less than two years.
Their turbulent relationship was chronicled on Season 5 of “Atlanta,” and many of Porsha’s co-stars viewed Kordell as an overly controlling spouse. But as recently as the show’s post-season reunion, Porsha was still defending Kordell and vowing the couple would try to make their marriage work.
Following last night’s final installment of the Season 5 reunion, Porsha was a guest on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live” and opened up to host Andy Cohen about how she found out about the divorce and the current status of her relationship with Kordell.
“I was totally blindsided,” Stewart told Cohen about the divorce, noting that even though Kordell didn’t join her for the reunion like the husbands of her co-stars, she still believed their marriage would survive. “At the reunion I did feel some kind of way because I did want my husband there with me but I was standing strong, representing for my family.”
Porsha also revealed that she first heard about the divorce from Twitter: “I was lying in bed and I woke up and I tweeted ‘Today is the first day of the rest of your life,'” she explained. “I put the phone down and I took another nap — like I always do — and I looked back at my phone and my sister was calling me over and over. She was like ‘Have you heard?’ … I said ‘OK let me go back to Twitter.’ The first thing I see is ‘Kordell divorcing Porsha.'”
That’s when she went to ask Kordell (who was in the house at the time!) if the reports were true. “I was very disappointed and let down,” she told Cohen. “When I got married I meant it for life.”
In addition to confirming that she had no pre-nup with Kordell, Porsha said that they’re still living under the same roof but didn’t sound hopeful about the possibility of a reconciliation. “We’re in the same house. I didn’t say we speak, I didn’t say I’m cooking. Ain’t no eggs and bacon and hamhocks no more.”
Besides questioning her about her divorce, Cohen also asked Stewart if she thought NeNe Leakes may have been talking about her when the veteran housewife mentioned she believes one of the “Atlanta” ladies needs to be replaced for next season. “I don’t know who [NeNe] was talking about,” Stewart said. “I didn’t feel like that night that the shade was coming towards me from her. But I don’t think so.”
