Reese Witherspoon wouldn’t let a little thing like an arrest get in the way of her attending a movie premiere. Following the actress being booked for disorderly conduct on Friday morning, she attended the premiere of her new movie “Mud” in New York City on Sunday.
She and her husband Jim Toth, who was also arrested for a DUI, held hands and showed a united front when they arrived at the Cinema Society premiere. Witherspoon posed for photos, but unsurprisingly didn’t speak to reporters on the red carpet. It seems as though attendees respected the fact that Witherspoon showed up, as she reportedly got the loudest applause when the cast of “Mud” was announced. The movie also stars Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Paulson.
If Witherspoon was acting demure and chastened at the premiere, it’s because she felt that way. She also released a statement on Sunday announcing she is “deeply embarrassed” for her behavior.
“I clearly had one drink too many, and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation, and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police, and I’m very sorry for my behavior,” she says.
