Former Victoria’s Secret model Kylie Bisutti penned an op-ed for the New York Post in anticipation of her book, “I’m No Angel,” an expos on the modeling industry.
“During the Angel competition, I was encouraged to play down my marriage to Mike, because I was supposed to be flirting with everyone all the time,” Bisutti writes. “A lot of models don’t talk about their relationships unless they’re married to a celebrity, like Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom, which is more of a draw to the brand.”
Now Victoria’s Secret is lashing back at Bisutti, telling People magazine Bisutti is making the whole thing up.
“Ms. Bisutti has made numerous fabrications and misstatements of fact regarding her brief association with Victoria’s Secret,” the company says in a statement. “She was never a Victoria’s Secret ‘Angel’ as defined by the terms of our Angel model contract. And contrary to Ms. Bisutti’s claims, she was never offered any subsequent modeling contracts or opportunities with Victoria’s Secret despite her multiple appeals for further work.”
Wow, harsh. VS says Bisutti walked in the 2009 Angels fashion show as the result of an amateur modeling competition and her only other work for the lingerie brand was a swimsuit photo shoot that same year. “She has repeatedly fabricated her work experience with Victoria’s Secret,” VS says of Bisutti, “including a relationship that simply did not exist.”
Below is a video of Bisutti speaking to parents and husbands about the pressure put on little girls and women by the modeling industry.
