“The Walking Dead” is gaining in numbers.
In the market for fresh blood after offing several characters in Season 3, the hit AMC series has added Larry Gilliard Jr. (“The Wire”) to its ranks, The Hollywood Reporter reports. Gilliard joins the series as a regular, playing the part of Bob Stookey, a former Army medic haunted by his past. He’s a loner, though he puts up a charming yet self-deprecating front.
A character from the comic book source material, Bob was an alcoholic resident of Woodbury who saved the Governor’s life after he was tortured by Michonne.
Gilliard, 42, played D’Angelo Barksdale on “The Wire,” where he co-starred alongside fellow “Walking Dead” cast mate Chad Coleman (Tyreese.) Coleman, Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha) and Emily Kinney (Beth) were recently promoted to series regulars on the show.
International Digital Times first reported Gilliard was in talks for the role.
