When Disney purchased Marvel Entertainment back in 2009, not only did the company acquire Marvel Studios, but it also became the home of Marvel Animation. Since the purchase, no animated film has been released through the Disney/Marvel partnership, but that’s about to change.
Disney announced on Thursday (May 9) that its previously untitled 3D animated film scheduled for release on November 7, 2014 now has a name: “Big Hero 6.” The film, inspired by the Marvel comics superhero team, is an action comedy adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who finds himself in the grips of a criminal plot that threatens to destroy the fast-paced, high-tech city of San Fransokyo. Hiro and his closest companion, a robot named Baymix, join forces with a reluctant team of first-time crime fighters on a mission to save their city.
The characters made their first appearance in the Marvel Comics universe in 1998. No talent has been confirmed for the project as of press time.
