Monday’s (June 3) episode of “Katie” centers around former child stars, so host Katie Couric asks them to weigh in on troubled starlet Amanda Bynes, who began acting at the age of seven. Jaleel White, best known as Steve Urkel from “Family Matters,” has a lot to say about Bynes, having worked with the actress on the 2002 comedy “Big Fat Liar.”
“I wish I could take it easy on her,” Jaleel says of Amanda. “But sometimes some of the things that comes out of her mouth — she calls a lot of people ugly; Jay-Z and Rihanna, and I’m just like — I don’t know. It comes from a very interesting spiritual place. All I can really do is pray for her, to be quite honest.”
Couric then points out the obvious. “This is clearly a young woman who’s in trouble, Jaleel, right,” she asks. And the actor gives a pretty direct answer. “Well, you can’t tell her that,” says Jaleel. “It’s just the truth. She has no clue that the train is not on the tracks right now.”
The attorney handling Bynes’ DUI case in Los Angeles claims the “Easy A” star is actually “fine” and “normal.” But, that is sort of his job and all. Bynes’ most recent legal troubles come in the way of an arrest by NYPD cops for throwing a bong out the window of her apartment when they responded to a report she was being disorderly.
Jaleel hosts the SyFy game show “Total Blackout” which has it’s season premiere June 4.
