Ugh, Kanye West, enough already. The rapper is slated to appear in the May 18 season finale of “Saturday Night Live,” and he’s made such a point of saying he’s only there to perform that it’s become entirely off-putting.
It’s pretty cool to be able to say you’re performing on an episode of “SNL,” let alone the last episode of its season. Even Justin Bieber was a good sport about appearing after having been mocked time and again on the show, but no, not Kanye. In the promo for the episode, West stands next to Ben Affleck and Fred Armisen and makes his disinterest in the promo sketches clear by barely changing his facial expression and deadpanning his lines without any hint of humor.
This comes after West went on a rant at Adult Swim’s Upfronts about how he doesn’t plan to “humanize” himself during Saturday’s “SNL” episode. Needless to say, don’t expect him to participate in any sketches this weekend.
“[I had a friend ask me, ‘Are you gonna go on] ‘SNL’ and you’re going to do like a skit about the paparazzi and shit and like humanize yourself?’ I ain’t here to apologize to no motherf***ers man. It ain’t about me humanizing myself,” West said. “At what point did I become unhuman where I had to turn myself back? Or maybe I was demonized. Or maybe I was treated inhumane and not human in that kind of situation.”
He continued, “I ain’t no mother***ing celebrity. I ain’t running for office. I ain’t kissing nobody’s motherf***ing babies. I drop your baby and you sue me and sh**. I’m trying to make some music that inspires people to be the best they can be. I don’t want nobody to ask nothing else of me. Don’t ask nothing else of me. Motherf***ers chasing you down ’bout to make you crash and sh**. And all they want is one n**** to laugh and sh**. Hell nah I ain’t doing no mother***ing ‘SNL’ skits, this my god*** life. This ain’t no mother***ing joke. That’s it. Stop that sh** right there.”
West is slated to perform two songs off his upcoming LP during “Saturday Night Live.”
