When Adult Swim hired Kanye West to perform during their Upfronts in New York, they likely expected that he would go off the handle in some way. True to form, West went on an epic rant during his hour-long set at the Roseland Ballroom to lash out at paparazzi.
“One thing about me, I’m the worst kinda … celebrity because all I do is make real music. All I do is sit in the studio and make real, real sh**. And that’s it,” he half-sings in video from the event that can be watched at Complex. “That’s mother***ing it. That’s motherf***ing it. So I don’t want nobody trying to run up on me with no cameras, trying to sell pictures and sh** to magazines, asking me no dumbass questions, throwing me off of my focus and sh**. Harassing you all mother***ing day. I ain’t no mother***ing celebrity.”
It’s unclear why the man who impregnated Kim Kardashian doesn’t think he’s a celebrity, but he continues to be very vocal about the distinction in his rant. He also lashes out at “Saturday Night Live,” which he’s scheduled to perform on during its May 18 season finale.
“[I had a friend ask me, ‘Are you gonna go on] ‘SNL’ and you’re going to do like a skit about the paparazzi and shit and like humanize yourself?’ I ain’t here to apologize to no motherf***ers man. It ain’t about me humanizing myself,” he says. “At what point did I become unhuman where I had to turn myself back? Or maybe I was demonized. Or maybe I was treated inhumane and not human in that kind of situation.”
West continues, “I ain’t no mother***ing celebrity. I ain’t running for office. I ain’t kissing nobody’s motherf***ing babies. I drop your baby and you sue me and sh**. I’m trying to make some music that inspires people to be the best they can be. I don’t want nobody to ask nothing else of me. Don’t ask nothing else of me. Motherf***ers chasing you down ’bout to make you crash and sh**. And all they want is one n**** to laugh and sh**. Hell nah I ain’t doing no mother***ing ‘SNL’ skits, this my god*** life. This ain’t no mother***ing joke. That’s it. Stop that sh** right there.”
Thanks for clearing that up, Kanye.
