You have to give Kanye West major points for his marketing skills. On Friday (May 17), the rapper debuted his single, “New Slaves,” by projecting the video onto walls in cities around the world. Fans who knew where to look could watch the debut from the streets.
Where were the videos projected? A map on a devoted website gives the details, indicating that Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, Toronto, New York, Paris, London, Berlin and Sydney were the chosen cities. According to Kanye West’s Twitter account, a total of 66 buildings — including Wrigley Field in Chicago — became screens to display Kanye’s glory.
This has been a busy week for West. In addition to the crazy single release, he performed a live show at the Adult Swim upfront party in New York City and is the musical guest for the “Saturday Night Live” season finale.
But he isn’t done yet. The artist sent out a tweet (now deleted) that said simply, “June 18.” While this most likely is a release date for his next album, Kanye could mean just about anything by that.
How is the new single itself? While you can judge for yourself in the video above, reviews have mostly been positive thus far. You can check out all of the lyrics here.
