Chris Kelly, who rose to fame in the early ’90s as one half of the rap duo Kris Kross, has died. The rapper was only 34 years old.
A rep for the Fulton Country Medical Examiner confirmed to Billboard that Kelly was found unresponsive in his Atlanta home on Wednesday (May 1) and was taken to Atlanta Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Kelly’s cause of death is still unknown and no other details have been made available at press time. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on Thursday morning.
Kris Kross, made up of Kelly and Chris “Daddy Mac” Smith, is best known for their hit “Jump” off their multi-platinum 1992 album “Totally Krossed Out.” They were also famous for wearing their extra baggy clothing backwards. Earlier this year, the guys reunited to perform at the 20th anniversary party for Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def label in Atlanta.
