Lauryn Hill‘s sentencing for her tax evasion was recently postponed to May 6 after she failed to make the necessary repayments, and the singer made sure not to make the same mistake twice. In anticipation of her Monday hearing, Hill’s attorney says she paid more than $970,000 in overdue taxes.
In 2012, Hill pled guilty to not paying the necessary taxes for the $1.8 million she earned between 2005 and 2007. When it was time for her April hearing, a judge said she had only paid $50,000 of the $500,000 total that she promised to pay. It seems at long last she has finally paid up.
Even though she paid back the money she owed, Hill is still facing up to a total of three years in prison. The Associated Press reports that Hill’s attorney is seeking to get her probation.
In anticipation of her hearing, Hill released a new song called “Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix)” on iTunes. She also claims she’s signed a new recording contract with Sony to help pay off her tax debt.
