After being arrested for disorderly conduct in Atlanta, Ga. April 19, Reese Witherspoon has entered a plea of no contest for physical obstruction of another, TMZ reports. The actress was arrested at the same time as her husband, James Toth, who was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated. He has pleaded guilty for his crime.
Witherspoon said in a “Good Morning America” interview that the couple was “embarassed” about the situation, and realizes they used poor judgement. According to the police report, Reese asked the police officer, “Do you know my name?” and told him, “You are going to be on national news.”
Witherspoon wasn’t in court to enter her plea, but was represented by her lawyer. She will have to pay a fine of $213. Toth was in court to enter his guilty plea. He received no jail time, but will have to complete 40 hours of community service, attend an alcohol education program, and be on probation for 12 months.
Witherspoon says the hardest part of the situation was explaining to her kids that she was wrong, “You have to say when you make a mistake, you have to take responsibility. And we are taking responsibility and doing everything in our power to make it right. You just have to be honest with them. That was definitely the hardest part.”
