“Star Trek” fans eager to see JJ Abrams’ sequel “Star Trek Into Darkness” won’t have to wait quite as long, now that Paramount has moved the wide release date to May 16.
That’s a Thursday and only one day earlier than the previously scheduled May 17, but for the hardcore fans even one day is better than nothing. The film will still launch with IMAX previews at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15.
We’ve seen the film — which is receiving solid early reviews from critics — and can report it’s a wild ride “Trek” fans will want to catch as soon as possible or risk hearing unwanted spoilers (there are several major twists).
“Into Darkness” reunites the core cast of 2009’s “Star Trek” — Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin and Bruce Greenwood — plus new additions Alice Eve as Dr. Carol Marcus, Peter Weller as Admiral Marcus and Benedict Cumberbatch as mysterious terrorist John Harrison.
