Ah, the ’80s — that magical decade of big hair and bad clothes. ABC is counting on viewer nostalgia for a time most would like to forget with their new Tuesday night comedy, “The Goldbergs.”

Evoking a “Wonder Years” feel, the trailer is narrated by the grown-up version of 11-year-old Adam (Sean Giambrone), a future director who captures the antics of his family on his huge video camera. There’s overbearing mom Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey, “Bridesmaids”), screaming brute dad Murray (Jeff Garlin, “Curb Your Enthusiasm”), oldest sister Erica (Hayley Orrantia, “The X Factor), total spaz middle child Barry (Troy Gentile, “Good Luck Chuck”) and wild man grandpa Al (George Segal, “Don’t Shoot Me”).

While the trailer sounds as if its narrated by Patton Oswalt (which is always a plus), the show seems to be putting all its hopes on callbacks to a decade that’s already been widely mocked in pop culture. There seem to be some moments of genuine humor here, let’s just hope they don’t get buried beneath a mountain of time period references. (For instance, Barry’s line about Flavor Flav? Lands with quite a thud.)

“The Goldbergs” has the hard task of kicking off a Tuesday comedy hour from 9 p.m. to 10 on the network, something that flopped this season with “Happy Endings” and “Don’t Trust The B—-,” but a lead-in from the highly-anticipated “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” should help matters.

Watch the trailer and let us know what you think — Are you ready to go back in time with “The Goldbergs”?
