If you didn’t get enough big alien action from 1996’s “Independence Day,” then just wait a couple years. 20th Century Fox has officially announced that a sequel to the movie will hit theaters July 3, 2015.
Roland Emmerich will return to direct and product the film, but so far he’s the only person announced, THR reports. The stars of the first, Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum, have yet to be confirmed for the followup.
The first “Independence Day” grossed $817 million worldwide, making Smith a global superstar. By the time the sequel is in theaters, it’ll have been 20 years since the first released. Other films currently scheduled for that Summer include “Pirates of the Caribbean 5,” “Marvel’s The Avengers 2” and even “Star Wards: Episode VII.” Summer 2015 is shaping up to be yet another gigantic movie season.
