With Season 5 almost at its close, Showtime has gone ahead and given an early renewal to dark comedy “Nurse Jackie.” The Edie Falco-led series will premiere Season 6 in 2014, the network announced Thursday (June 6).
Clyde Phillips, who took over as showrunner for the show’s fifth season, will return when production begins on Season 6 in New York this fall. “‘Nurse Jackie’ is an essential part of the Showtime brand, and we are thrilled with the series’ growth in its fifth season,” Showtime Entertainment President David Nevins says. “Under the new leadership of Clyde Phillips, and with an amazing cast led by Edie Falco, this show is as sharp and compelling and entertaining as ever. I’m excited to get to see the next chapter in Jackie’s life.”
The renewal comes just a day after the cable net decided it would be ending drama “The Borgias” after its current season, Season 3, wraps up.
