Paramount Pictures has announced a reboot of the beloved sci-fi franchise will open June 26, 2015. Arnold Schwarzenegger has already confirmed he will return in the title role, but the film is expected to launch a brand new standalone trilogy rather than continue where 2009’s semi-disastrous “Terminator: Salvation” left off.
Paramount will distribute and is financing the project in a partnership with Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures and David Ellison’s Skydance Productions.
Laeta Kalorgridis (“Avatar,” “Shutter Island”) and Patrick Lussier (“Drive Angry”) are attached to write the screenplay.
“Terminator” co-creator James Cameron is not involved in any official capacity, although he will regain rights to the franchise in 2019 — which could complicate bringing a full trilogy to fruition.
