Celebrities always arrive at their own concerts in style, and Dave Matthews is no exception … though his style is a lot less glamorous than most.
When Matthews’ bike broke down on his way to his show in Hershey, Pa., on Saturday (July 13), he narrowly averted a disaster (he didn’t have a cellphone on him) when two of his fans pulled over to give a stranded cyclist a ride — without realizing that the hitchhiker was none other than the musician they were on the way to see in concert.
Emily Kraus told WHP-TV that that she and her boyfriend helped Matthews secure his bike on their bike rack and they gave him a ride the rest of the way to the concert.
“We didn’t know how to make conversation with him, in fact, so we were talking about his tour and where he had come from,” Kraus said. “He had just been in Cincinnati and he said, ‘I’m taking a short break after this one because I have to drop my daughters off at camp.’ He was just a very humble guy.”
To thank them for their help, Matthews invited them to dinner, took them backstage, signed their concert tickets, and got them front-row seats for the show.
Kraus said she woke up the next morning still amazed at what had happened. “I rolled over and I said, ‘OK, yeah that really happened yesterday,'” Kraus said. “It was surreal. We couldn’t believe it.”
Lesson learned: always help someone in need. You never know when that someone could turn out to be your favorite musician.
