Sir Elton John announced he will be undergoing surgery for an appendix abscess — technically, an appendix abscess surrounding retrocaecal appendicitis — and will have to postpone all the upcoming shows in his European tour. The surgery will occur in the coming weeks.
“Elton is incredibly disappointed to postpone these tour dates,” his rep tells People. “To know that he made such super-human efforts and continued to perform to thousands through his illness only confirms his dedication to his European fans. He is eager to be back on top form and return to play the remaining shows starting in early September 2013.”
John reportedly felt unwell during his European tour dates and called in a team of doctors. It was then that he was diagnosed with the abscess after going through an array of blood tests and scans. At this point in time, John is said to be taking intensive antibiotics. The surgery will take place once the toxins around his inflamed appendix have been reduced.
Among the shows that have been postponed was a Hyde Park concert in London on July 12 where John was slated to play with Elvis Costello and Ray Davies.
