Former “Today” host Meredith Vieira is following in the footsteps of Katie Couric once more, signing on to host a daytime talk show.
Vieira’s talk show, produced and distributed by NBCUniversal, is slated for a fall 2014 launch. Vieira will serve as an executive producer in addition to hosting.
“Each day, I hope to accomplish what I call the three H’s: Heat, Heart and Humor,” Vieira says. “And speaking of the heart, I want to thank my husband, Richard, and kids, Ben, Gabe and Lily, for strongly encouraging me to take this incredible opportunity … or else they really just want to get me out of the house.”
The set for “The Meredith Vieira Show” will be designed to look like Vieira’s own home, down to borrowing some furniture from her. It will feature a mix of celebrity guests, human-interest stories and lifestyle segments.
Vieira left “Today” in June 2011 in part to spend more time with her husband, who has multiple sclerosis. She announced earlier this year that she was leaving her gig as host of the syndicated game show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.”
