Fans of One Direction are up in arms over their beloved’s covers of the September issue of British GQ, and they are letting the magazine know about in on Twitter. The problem is, Directioners are tweeting their miscellaneous insults and death threats to American GQ, which features “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston — not Harry Styles — on its new cover.
GQ received thousands of tweets in response to their British counterpart’s cheeky headlines which, based on the magazine’s preview excerpts
, seem to paraphrase quotes from the boy band, taken ever so slightly out of context.
The mag writes of Styles, “He’s up all night to get lucky” and uses the quote, “It’s definitely less than 100 …” The quote used on the cover for Liam Payne, who has a girlfriend, is “Groupies? You’re going to get me in trouble.” Liam’s actual quote in the article is, “Groupies? We don’t have time to party! I’m not even single … This sort of talk will get me in trouble.” Zayn Malik and Niall Horan‘s quotes seem to depict them as egomaniacs, and Directioners are having none of it.
For their part, American GQ has been a good sport about the Twitter mixup. While their social media editor gave good-natured interviews
to the media, the mag posted a selection of hate tweets from Directioners on its website. GQ’s “fan mail” favorites
include such gems as:
“I HATE GQ MOTHERF***ING F***ERS F*** YOU ALL HOW DISRESPECTFUL WAS THAT GO DIE IN A HOLE”
“F*** GQ I HOPE THEY DIE FROM CHLAMYDIA CIAO”
“gq I will come over there and personally slaughter you okay”
“I’m getting my butcher knife and I’m gonna have a little talk with the people at GQ”
“WHO WANTS TO COME KILL GQ WITH ME?!”
“DEAR GQ U SHOULD HAVE UR EYES CHECKED THE MAN U CALL A MANW**** IS A F***ING CUPCAKE U LITTLE S***S I HOPE NO ONE BUYS UR S****Y MAGAZINE”
“F***ing GQ get a proper job you d***s”
“GQ kindly shut the f*** up before I chop your head off.”
It’s a passionate love these Directioners have for their boy band idols, is it not? Of course the British GQ Twitter account got its fair share of hate mail as well, to which they responded by posting a link to 1D’s campaign against cyber bullying. Here it is
, Directioners. Now listen to your elders.
By the way, for those who are actually interested in British GQ’s 1D covers, here are some behind-the-scene videos
