Each airing of “Sharknado” has seen ratings climb. The premiere broadcast on July 11 of the so-awful-it’s-good shark film earned only so-so ratings — despite Twitter insanity that night, only 1.4 million viewers tuned in. Interestingly, ratings for “Sharknado” actually grew to 1.9 million viewers for the movie’s July 18 repeat.
The third airing on Saturday? 2.1 million viewers! And they say social media has no effect on ratings …
Don’t worry if you missed any of the three airings of “Sharknado” — Syfy plans to air its hit one more time on Thursday, Aug. 22 at 7pm. This will serve as a lead-in for the cable network’s next great shark hope, “Ghost Shark.” That new bit of awful awesomeness will premiere at 9pm on the same night.
Not to be contained by the television medium, “Sharknado” is also hitting movie theaters this Friday (Aug. 2). It looks like the planned sequel, “Sharknado 2,” will also have a theatrical debut in New York City in July 2014.
