Looks like spinoff TV series are all the rage these days … at least, over at The CW.
After the wildly successful backdoor pilot for “The Vampire Diaries” spinoff “The Originals” was picked up for a full season for this fall, the network is trying again with the long-running hit show “Supernatural.”
Down at Comic-Con on Sunday (July 21) in San Diego, “Supernatural” executive producer Bob Singer announced at a press event that a backdoor pilot is being developed. Although it is still in the early planning stages, here are the details we know so far: a new character will be introduced in or around Episode 20, and that episode will serve as a planted pilot for the new show which will have a more urban feel than “Supernatural’s” more backwoods tone. This new character will then anchor the spin-off.
How do you feel about this new possible spinoff? Are you glad the brothers Winchester will still be together on the original show, rather than splitting up the dream team?
“Supernatural” Season 9 premieres Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
