Though most of The CW’s upcoming fall lineup of new and returning shows are genre-based (with the exception of “The Carrie Diaries” and “Hart of Dixie”), the intriguing new period drama “Reign” is gaining a lot of buzz.
The new series tells the previously unknown and untold story of Mary Queen of Scots’ rise to power when she arrives in France as a 15-year-old, betrothed to Prince Francis, and with her three best friends as ladies-in-waiting. The secret history of survival at French Court amid fierce foes, dark forces, and a world of sexual intrigue is unveiled, and two new faces have just joined the cast which stars Adelaide Kane and Toby Regbo.
Luke Roberts (“Holby City”) is set to recur as Simon Westbrook, EW reports. A handsome and quietly menacing English diplomat, Simon is the representative of Scotland’s greatest enemy and “is brilliant and ruthless” in his efforts to destroy Mary’s place in the royal court.
Also joining “Reign” is Katie Boland (“The Zack Files”), who will recur as Clarissa, “a strange and almost feral young woman who hides in the shadows” as her face is severely disfigured. “Clarissa’s past is a tantalizing puzzle that will reach out to change the lives around her in ways no one suspects.”
“Reign” premieres on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
