Last season of “The Voice” saw the introduction of two new celebrity judges, Usher and Shakira, but the original gang is getting back together for Season 5 (premiering this fall on Sept. 23). CeeLo Green and Christina Aguilera are returning as judges, and the whole cast agrees that it’s the best season yet.
“I think we all had different reasons for either needing a season off or sticking around,” Aguilera tells Zap2it. “I’m glad these guys were down to hold the original roots of the show together. It’s like being reconnected with old family.”
Green agrees, adding, “I missed everyone. I’m happy to be here.”
Adam Levine — who recently got engaged — is excited for fans to see the original group back together. “I feel like this is the best season so far, even though it’s been brief,” Levine tells Zap2it. “I think this is the best we’ve ever been, all four of us together. I’m really happy. I think why the show has been special from the beginning is because it has more of a soul. That’s what’s great about us getting back together.”
Taking off the last season allowed Aguilera to refocus on what she believes is the most important part of the show: nurturing the talent of the contestants. “It’s really not about winning. To discover people at the beginning of their careers and seeing yourself in them, you ask, ‘What can I do to just help them out?'” Aguilera says. “And I want to learn from them, too. I’m refreshed coming back. I’m the type of artist that needs to step away from the camera sometimes in order to regroup and center myself.”
But three-time winner Blake Shelton had another insight: “It is a lot of fun to win it.”
“The Voice” Season 5 premieres Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
