youtube geek week easter egg secret YouTube's 'Geek Week' Easter egg brings a retro homepage

After the success of YouTube Comedy Week, the video-sharing website is jumping into themed programming once again. Starting August 4, the site will launch Geek Week. Over 100 channels will partake in the festivities, posting videos that specifically appeal to geek culture.
Each day will have a special focus, starting with Blockbuster Sunday, where popular movies and TV shows in the geek world get the spotlight. There’s also celebrations of anime, “Doctor Who,” science, gaming, cosplay and more set for the week.
As a special promotion for the events, YouTube has put a secret version of their site online, and you’ve got to be pretty geeky to unlock it. On July 24, the site’s Twitter account sent a message reading, “Crack the code to go retro: 53 65 61 72 63 68 20 59 6f 75 54 75 62 65 20 66 6f 72 20 2f 20 67 65 65 6b 77 65 65 6b #GeekWeek.”
It didn’t take long for the code to be deciphered by viewers. If you go to the site and type “/ geekweek” into the search engine, you’re greeted by an old school, text-based version of YouTube’s homepage. It’s definitely a fun trip back to a time when the internet was a very different place.
