Bethany Hamilton is now a wife! The professional surfer, whose arm was eaten by a shark during an attack when she was 13, wed her fiance Adam Dirks during a ceremony in Kauai, Hawaii on Aug. 17.
“Today was the most beautiful, wonderful best day of my life! God is more than good(: Excited to live life with my husband Adam Dirks!” Hamilton tweets, announcing the news.
The 23-year-old athlete, who was born in Hawaii, won an ESPY Award in 2004 and wrote the autobiography called “Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family, and Fighting to Get Back on the Board” that was turned into a movie in 2011. She continued surfing professionally following the shark attack that took her arm, getting back on the board a month after the accident.
Hamilton and Dirks met in Spring 2012, and announced they were engaged in April. She tells Us Weekly that they’re doing a “non tropical honeymoon” that will involve a cabin. Congratulations to the happy couple!
