During the ABC executive session during 2013 TCA panels Sunday (Aug. 5), ABC head Paul Lee addressed the changes to the upcoming “Dancing With the Stars” season, including doing away with the elimination show and also whether popular dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy will return.
“We really wanted to focus and eventize ‘Dancing With the Stars,'” says Lee, in reference to cutting the broadcast down from two nights to one.
“I know [executive producer Conrad Green] is having a whole lot of fun constructing a night on the Monday that really will not just give you the dances but give you the results on one night. We thought that would focus ‘Dancing With the Stars’ and give it a hook going into next season.”
“We haven’t made any decisions about whether we bring back a results show as it goes through. Conrad has worked through a really interesting two hours. … Certainly, it builds to a climax at the end,” Lee adds.
As for whether Chmerkovskiy will return, Lee says it’s a possibility.
“Maks is part of the family. He may well be back. We love having him part of it,” says Lee.
The ladies love Maks, that’s for sure. “Dancing With the Stars” premieres Monday, Sept. 16 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
