Ellen DeGeneres will return as host of the Academy Awards in 2014, seven years after her last time as host.
Oscar show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron made the announcement Friday (Aug. 2), saying in a statement that they had always hoped to work with their long-time friend, “and nothing could be more exciting than teaming up to do the Oscars.”
“There are few stars today who have Ellen’s gift for comedy, with her great warmth and humanity,” Zadan and Meron say. “She is beloved everywhere, and we expect that the audience at the Dolby Theater, and in homes around the globe, will be as excited by this news as we are.”
Jokes DeGeneres, “I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars for the second time. You know what they say — the third time’s the charm.”
DeGeneres takes over hosting duties from Seth MacFarlane, whose turn fronting the show earlier this year drew decidedly mixed reaction from critics and viewers. She last hosted the Oscars in 2007.
The Academy Awards are scheduled for March 2 on ABC.
