For the first time, Kelly Osbourne is revealing some of the details about her past with drug addiction and the failed steps she took to correct the problem. In a new interview with Cosmopolitan UK, Kelly talks about her experiences in rehab, including the time she was locked in a padded room.
“I’ve been to rehab seven times and to two mental institutions,” she says. “My mum (Sharon Osbourne) even had me put in a padded cell once to scare me.” It wasn’t successful, as Kelly explains, “Like a brat I just sat it out until she said, ‘Well, that’s not going to work’.”
Kelly says she’s learned that the only way you can beat the addiction is to actually want to. “What changed for me was looking around and seeing that nobody liked me or wanted to work with me,” she admits.
Osbourne also talks about turning down a role that would have sent her on a very different career-path. “When I was 18, I was set to play Lindsay Lohan’s best friend in ‘Freaky Friday’,” she says, “Then my mum got diagnosed with cancer.” Kelly left the role, choosing instead to serve as her mother’s nurse. “I thought I was going to lose her — it was awful.”
Sharon recovered and Kelly eventually got clean. Now she’s a co-host on E!’s “Fashion Police” and engaged to chef Matthew Mosshart. So, it seems like things turned out alright.
