Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Night event is going to be a treat for lovers of pop culture this year. The 2013 edition of the annual Halloween special will include horror mazes based on “The Cabin in the Woods,” “Evil Dead,” “The Walking Dead” and “An American Werewolf in London,” as well as a newly announced “Resident Evil” video game series house.
“It’s such a great delight to work with Universal on a haunted house based on the ‘Resident Evil’ games,” “Resident Evil 6” producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi says in a statement. “The games have become synonymous with survival horror and we look forward to delivering a new way for consumers to experience the ‘Resident Evil’ world we have created in the haunted house at Halloween Horror Nights.”
In 2012, Universal Orlando brought to life the world of “Silent Hill” for Halloween Horror Nights, so “Resident Evil” is a natural progression for the theme park’s Halloween spectacular. Guests can expect to encounter classic “Resident Evil” characters in this maze like Lickers, Cerberuses and even Nemesis, as well as bloodthirsty zombies. Visitors to the “Resident Evil” maze will find themselves as survivors in Raccoon City, and the video game world will be authentically created to the point that one room will appear as though a player paused the game in the middle of a fight scene.
Universal Orlando Halloween Horror Nights Creative Director Michael Aiello says of the announcement, “‘Resident Evil’ is the perfect final addition to Halloween Horror Nights 23. We were able to create incredibly elaborate sets that plant you right in the midst of Raccoon City’s apocalyptic nightmare, along with terrifying adversaries that will send them running.”
Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights 23 will run on select nights from Sept. 20 to Nov. 2. Tickets are onsale now.
